A Fresh Start

Welcome to my new blog!

It’s been six years since I released my first book. Six years since I began blogging. Six years since I started this whole crazy publishing journey. And, in that time, I’ve changed. A lot. Not only as a writer, but as a person.

I think it’s time to start over, start fresh.

As I was building my new website earlier this month, I wasn’t sure if I should include a blog page. Squarespace makes it easy to import content from another platform, so I figured I’d give it a shot. I went ahead and initiated the transfer from Blogger, but after the content imported, and I saw it here—on this nice, clean, new space—I felt like those words didn’t belong here. Like those pictures didn’t belong here.

Like my past didn’t belong here.

So, I got rid of it. And then I considered deleting the page altogether. But something held me back. A little voice inside that said, wouldn’t it be fun to start over? To use this space however you want? To have a place to come to when you feel like writing something that might not necessarily be connected to a book?

I love writing novels. I love developing characters, coming up with plot lines, and bringing a story to life. But writing novels takes an incredible amount of time and energy. When I finish a novel, I’m spent. I need some time to recharge. To refuel. To let the words build up inside me again.

I always worry, after I finish a book, if I’ll be able to write another one. If the story ideas will continue to flow. If I’ll be able to make it to THE END again. I actually do have an idea for the next book this time. I know what I'm going to write. But I don’t have the creative energy to even begin putting words on the page yet.

I'm going to take a little time off. From writing novels. But maybe not from writing.

I want this blog to be a place where I can come and write freely again. A place where I can give into a creative impulse instead of worrying how each sentence is going to affect every little thing that comes after it. A place where I can write words that don’t have to be perfect, words I’m not trying to sell, words that don’t have to fit into my brand.

I’m not sure what I’m going to write about yet. Maybe the books I’m reading, the recipes I’m cooking, or the flowers I’m growing in my garden. Maybe I’ll write about my travels, or share stories about other people who are doing unique and interesting things.

I’m just going to keep it loose, and let it evolve over time.

I hope you'll join me. :)
